Cruising the coast of Turkey

Turkey is surrounded by turquoise waters of the four seas, the Mediterranean, the Aegean, the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara. Its indented coastline provides splendid bays, coves, inlets and different anchorages for yachtsmen where they can enjoy various water sport activities; swimming, diving, waterskiing, fishing, or simply experience cultural heritage of the ancient cities and beauty of the surroundings.
The coast of Turkey is one of the most beautiful and attractive sailing and cruising destinations. It can be divided into four charter areas. The Ionian coast (from Izmir to Bodrum) boasts one of the best climate conditions in Turkey. This area is ideal for bareboat and gullet charters. Though it is beautiful and charming there, you may run into few yachts and it won’t be too crowded. Attractive anchorages and ports may be found in Izmir, Cesme, Kusadasi, Sigacik, Bodrum and other places. One can easily approach the Eastern Sporades as well as the Dodecanese Islands starting from one of the bases on the Ionian coast.
Another attractive sailing area is the mountainous and green Carian coast. The coastline abounds in bays, sandy beaches, rock tombs, many historical sites, anchorages and ports such as Gökeva, Cökertme, Sehir Adalari, Söğut, Mersinçik, Datça, Bençik, Marmaris and other ports. Greek waters are easy to cross from here.
The west Lycian coast comprises the stretch from Marmaris to Göcek and Fethiye, while the east Lycian coast extends further east, from Fethiye towards Antalya. The whole Lycian coastline is mountainous and rugged with impressive cliffs and ravines. One can find safe and beautiful green anchorages on the west coast, and a few secluded coves and bays between Kalkan and Finike. Ports, cultural and historical sites can be found in Fethiye, Kalkan, Kas, Antalya and other places.
The Turkish coastline abounds in marvellous bays and coves offering safe anchorages and splendid surroundings. The southwest coast is an ideal cruising ground.
