When to go?
The best seasons to visit Turkey would probably be spring and autumn, because of the perfect climate during that time in Istanbul and on the Aegean and Mediterranean coast, when the daily temperatures are pleasant. However, summer is the most popular season for sailing and water sport enthusiasts. The sailing season actually starts in April when anchorages are pretty quiet. As days become longer, the sea is warmer and more tempting. Evenings are pleasant in June due to the prevailing cool winds that make it all bearable. September is also popular for swimming in the warm seas.
During spring and autumn, it may be cool in Anatolia, but pleasant. The best period to visit the Black Sea coast is between April and September. It is advisable to visit eastern Turkey from late June to September. If you plan to go before May or after mid-October, be prepared for snow. Try to avoid traveling during their most popular public holiday, Kurban Bayrami.
There are seven climatic areas in Turkey: Marmara with warm, humid summer days and cool nights, and rainy winters; Aegean with hot and dry summers and cold winters; Mediterranean with hot and humid summers and mild, cool winters; Central Anatolia with hot, dry summers and cold winters with snow; Black Sea with mild, humid summers and damp winters; Southeast Anatolia with very hot and dry summers and mild, dry winters; Eastern Anatolia with short, mild summers and long, bitterly cold winters.
